General questions about the conference should go to Conference Organizer Mike Stickney. (E-mail) March 2011: The Society announced $3,500 in scholarships. This year's winners are listed here. February 2011: The venue for the 2012 conference will be West Yellowstone. October 2010: Judson Mead, 93, emeritus faculty at Indiana University and director of the IU Geologic Field Station in Montana from 1960-81, passed away October 10. Jud was a charter member of the TRGS and was an important inspiration to Bob & Marian Lankston and Dick Gibson to found the TRGS. Obituary August 2010: At the Anconda Field Conference, Jim Sears was awarded the TRGS Hammer Award for "distinguished achievement in the study of the geology of the Northern Rocky Mountains." Earlier this year the TRGS Executive Committee also conferred Honorary Membership on Dick Berg, Bruce Cox, Dean Kleinkopf, and Dave Lageson, all for their outstanding services to the TRGS. The complete list of awardees and Honorary Members is here. August 2010: Photos from the Anaconda meeting posted by Skye Cooley have been posted here, and more from Ted Antonioli are available on the TRGS Facebook page. Also, Robert Mahon posted an album on his Facebook page. February 2010: First announcement and Call for Papers for Anaconda meeting posted. February 2010: We've got 41 fans on Facebook. • Four new Honorary Members have been named. Congratulations! • We've enabled PayPal for Membership dues payments and for donations to scholarship funds. 2010 scholarship applications are coming in - deadline Feb. 15. We'll probably have decisions by the end of March. January 2010: Members voting approved the by-laws revision unanimously. New officers, elected to hold office until after the 2012 field conference, are Mike Stickney, President; Katie McDonald, Vice President; Ted Antonioli, Treasurer; and Ann Marie Crites, Secretary. December 2009: The election of officers and a vote on the by-laws question (see below) is in progress. If you believe you are a member of record as of Dec. 3 and did not receive either an e-mail ballot or paper ballot (they were mailed Dec. 4 to folks for whom we don't have e-mail addresses), please contact Dick Gibson. Balloting deadline is January 7, 2010. June 2009: Long-time supporter of the TRGS, Joan Harrison, passed away in Lakewood, Colorado. She and her late husband Jack Harrison endowed the Harrison Scholarship awarded by the TRGS for studies of Precambrian rocks. For a complete memorial provided by Mitchell Reynolds, please click here. August 2009: The TRGS Board of Directors is submitting a revised set of by-laws to the membership for approval. Most of the changes proposed reflect the de-facto manner in which the Society has been operating for some time, and are an attempt to bring the by-laws in concert with that operating style. For example, the Executive Committee is redefined as the Board, Officers, and certain other members. Action via e-mail was explicitly made permissible, although it was probably acceptable under the old by-laws. Changes are indicated on both the old and new versions, which can be downloaded below as PDF files.
August 2009: TRGS received a generous donation of $1,000 from Rob Foster as part of his continuing support of the Michael Thompson Foster Scholarship. Thank you! August 2009: Nominations from members in good standing are open until September 1, 2009, for the offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The currently serving offficers constitute the slate of nominees that will be submitted to the membership, together with any additional nominees, in September. To make a nomination, contact Mike Stickney (mstickney@mtech.edu). July 2009: The TRGS Board confirmed that TRGS Conference Organizers need not pay conference registration fees, and field trip leaders do not pay field trip fees for their own field trip(s). A small token of appreciation for the immense amounts of work that go into conferences and field trips! |
