The Harrison Scholarship was established by Jack Harrison in 1995-96 with an initial bequest of $6,000. The TRGS Board of Directors established the TRGS Scholarship in 1994-95, also with an initial contribution of $6,000. Both these funds are perpetual endowments, meaning that the principal in each fund is not spent, but rather the interest income generated is used to create scholarships. In general, TRGS gives more money away as scholarships than is generated by the funds, thanks to donations and sales of back issues of guidebooks (our summer field conferences are designed to break even, and usually do). Donors may contribute either to the principal, to grow the amount of the endowment, or directly to the spendable accounts on each of these funds. Spaces to indicate your preference are found on the Donation Form. The Michael Thompson Foster Scholarship is not an endowment, but instead all contributions go into a spendable fund which supports scholarships directly. Rob Foster began the fund in memory of his son, and has supported the Foster Sholarship for many years.
The TRGS Executive Committee in 2010 established levels of giving for support of our scholarship funds: Copper (up to $49), Silver ($50-$499), and Gold ($500 and more). Your donations are very much appeciated and go directly to deserving student researchers each year, totaling more than $31,000 since 1995. Donors are listed below, with our thanks! If we have left any names off the lists, we apologize and ask that you contact Treasurer Ted Antonioli.
Endowment (principal) values at August 4, 2010: TRGS: $10,100. Harrison: $10,025.
